This Health and Safety Policy applies to everyone working at Eastbourne Trampoline

Purpose

This policy sets out how we will manage health and safety during all club activities, on and off the trampoline.

Safe environment

Each session will:

  • Take place in a clean, well-lit, and hazard-free space

  • Have trampolines and mats inspected before each session

  • Have emergency exits clearly marked and unobstructed

  • Have a first aid kit available at all times and follow our first aid policy.

Regarding equipment.

  • Only club-approved trampolines and safety mats will be used

  • Equipment will be checked regularly and repaired/replaced if damaged

  • Equipment will be serviced every year
  • No unauthorised modifications to equipment

  • Floor mats, safety mats and end deck mats will be in place for all sessions

Coaching and supervision

The coaches code of conduct and the spectator’s code of conduct will be followed.

  • All sessions will be led by a qualified coach with up-to-date first aid and safeguarding training

  • Supervision ratios won’t exceed qualifications held

  • No unsupervised trampoline use during club hours

Clothing and items

Participants’ code of conduct will be followed.

  • Members must wear appropriate sports clothing

  • Long hair tied back

  • No chewing gum or food while trampolining

  • Socks or trampoline shoes are to be worn on the trampoline unless permitted by the Lead coach.
  • No dangling earrings

Registration information

Participants will register before attending a session.

All registration information will follow our privacy policy.

Eastbourne Trampoline will ensure parent/guardian consent before allowing participants under 18 to take part in trampolining.

Medical Screening

Eastbourne Trampoline is responsible for the health and safety of coaches, volunteers, participants and spectators.

All coaches, volunteers and participants are expected to share medical information that may affect their or others’ health and safety during activities.

Reasonable adjustments will be made to follow the Equality Act 2010 and our Equality, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion policy.

Medical Considerations

If an individual’s condition raises questions about participation, Eastbourne Trampoline will seek professional advice.

Examples of medical conditions where advice may be required:

  • Pregnancy
  • Detaching Retina
  • Confirmed Atlanto Axial Instability
  • Rodded back
  • Brittle bones

This isn’t everything.

Any other condition where staff are unsure could be questioned for further professional advice.

Atlanto Axial Instability

People with Down Syndrome may have loose ligaments.

This can result in a wide range of motion in joints, including the neck.

In addition, the bones at the atlanto-axial joint may be poorly developed.

This instability increases the risk.

We require a professional screening and a medical letter before participating.

Dwarfism

People with Achondroplasia or other genetic skeletal dysplasia (forms of dwarfism) should not participate in trampoline. 

Rescue Medication

Emergency medication for conditions such as:

  • Asthma
  • Allergic reactions
  • Epilepsy
  • Diabetes

Participant registration will highlight conditions and appropriate procedures will be put in place.

Eastbourne Trampoline will:

  • Limit exposure to potential triggers.
  • Train staff to be aware of symptoms that may indicate an impending emergency.
  • Training staff to administer medication in line with medical protocols;
  • Have emergency plans that cover the location/storage of medication

Smoking

No smoking in public buildings, which includes Hillbrow Health and Wellbeing. The Eastbourne Trampoline training venue.

Substance Abuse

Coaches, volunteers, participants and members with drug or alcohol problems should tell a Welfare officer.

Roles and responsibilities of everyone involved at Eastbourne Trampoline:

  • Must not use illegal drugs
  • Must not use illegal drugs or substances, including alcohol, in a way that might affect their performance or the safety of others while participating in trampoline.
  • Not to drink alchol or be affected by alchol while participating in trampoline.
  • Encourage other to seek help if they have a problem
  • Avoid covering up for others.
