Scope

This policy applies to:

  • All club members (children and adults)
  • Coaches and volunteers
  • Parents and carers
  • Committee members
  • Visitors and spectators at club events

Glossary

Adult at risk

Adults whom the Local Authority has a responsibility to support to prevent them from experiencing (further) harm caused by abuse and neglect.

Abuse

A violation of a person’s physical, emotional, or mental integrity by any other person.

Bullying

Intentional behaviour that is usually repeated to hurt another individual or group.

Child

The terms ‘child’, ‘children’ and ‘young person’ describe any person under the age of 18.

Harm

Damage done to a person’s well-being.

Harrassment

Consistent purposeful bothering, threatening or upsetting behaviour towards another person.

Hazing

Usually done in groups, making someone go through embarrassing, dangerous, or harmful activities to join or stay in the group.

Mental Capacity

The ability to consider relevant information, make and communicate a decision.

Safeguarding

Work to prevent and to stop abuse and neglect.

Statement

We are committed to ensuring safeguarding practice reflects statutory responsibilities, government guidance and follows best practice of the Working Together to Safeguard Children Act 2023 requirements.

What we'll do

At Eastbourne Trampoline we will:

  • Promote and prioritise safety and wellbeing of everyone
  • Value, listen to and respect everyone
  • Ensure everyone understands their roles and responsibilities.
  • Give everyone appropriate learning opportunities.
  • Provide effective management and training of staff.
  • Ensure appropriate action is taken in the case of events.
  • Support all individuals who raise concerns.
  • Ensure confidential, detailed and accurate records of all safeguarding concerns are securely secured.
  • Ensure suitable recruitment procedures.
  • Implement an online safety policy.

Failure to follow the policy and procedures will be addressed without delay.

This may ultimately result in suspension or exclusion from Eastbourne Trampoline.

Responsibilities

Eastbourne Trampoline:

  • Ensure trained Welfare officer information is accessible and available.
  • Maintain Coach, Participant and Spectator code of conduct.
  • Ensure safe recruitment.

Trained Welfare Officers:

  • Acting as the main point of contact for safeguarding concerns.
  • Promoting awareness of safeguarding.
  • Liaising with external safeguarding bodies (e.g., Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO))

Coaches & Staff:

  • A valid enhanced DBS check with barring list.
  • Complete safeguarding and child protection training.
  • Follow the Staff code of conduct.

Parents & Carers:

  • Support the club’s safeguarding efforts.
  • Communicate any concerns to the Welfare officer.
  • Respect club policies and follow the spectator code of conduct.

Participants:

  •  Support the club’s safeguarding efforts.
  • Communicate any concerns to the Welfare officer.
  • Respect club policies and follow the participant code of conduct.

Recruitment

Eastbourne Trampoline will ensure all staff and volunteers:

  • Undergo an in person screening process.
  • Provide references where appropriate.
  • Complete relevant safeguarding and first aid training.
  • Complete relevant DBS checks in line with current legislation.

Reporting

All concerns should be reported to a Welfare Officer.

Members of staff will inform a Welfare Officer or follow up the chain where appropriate.

For urgent matters, the appropriate emergency services or child protection services should be contacted.

Steps to follow:

  1. Report to a Club Welfare Officer.
  2. Record the concern (include date, time, names, and nature of concern)
  3. Do not investigate – only refer.
  4. In emergencies contact police or children’s services.

Records

Any information relating to safeguarding concerns will be stored securely.

All stored data will follow our privacy policy.

Anti-Bullying and Anti-Hazing

Bullying or Hazing, in any form, will not be tolerated.

Quick action will be taken to address any behaviour that is threatening, humiliating, or harmful to others.

Physical Contact

Trampoline coaching can involve physical contact for safety.

Coaches will:

  • Only use contact when necessary.
  • Explain the reasons for contact beforehand.
  • Seek consent from participants and parents where appropriate.
